Bar Mitzvah & Bat Mitzvah gifts

Bar Mitzvah (Obliged to the Commandments)

The ceremony of the Bar Mitzvah initiates a Jewish boy into religious adulthood and is held when he turns thirteen.
First the boy is "called up" in the synagogue during service to recite the blessings connected with reading from the Torah, and, usually, also reads a portion from it.
The second part is a festive meal, where the new adult delivers a sermon or speech. Commonly a party follows.
The second part of the ceremony may follow the service immediately or be held several days later.
